Farm to People
For busy moms, students, and even vacationers, going to the grocery store can be a hassle, especially now, it is time consuming and even a little annoying. For me, the biggest problem, even before the COVID era, has been a lack of transparency. Most big-name stores source their foods from factory farms all over the country and even the world, which results in little understanding of where and who the food is actually coming from. This lack of information leaves us, the consumers, blind to the impact of our choices on the supply chain and our own health.
Farm to People is a produce and grocery delivery service that originated in New York City in 2012 with a father and son team, David and Michael Robinov. David and Michael are passionate about sustainable and transparent food systems and were inspired to create a platform for wholesome foods made with traditional methods by small batch producers and farmers. Farm to People connects small family farms and food producers from all over New York State and surrounding areas, with consumers, that areeager to enjoy the nutritious and fresh meats, produce, and pantry items.
Having Farm to People deliver in the Hamptons means that we can enjoy not only our hyper-local farms and farm stands, but also support and experience farms from all over the state and surrounding areas. They source products that do not use GMO seeds or materials, use no- or low- spray growing practices, and treat their animals humanely, by leaving them uncaged with ample access to range in pastures. Additionally, theirseafood is sourced from fishermen whose businesses are family owned and recommended by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program.
This means your food will be:
More nutritious – the longer produce spends off the vine or out of the ground, the more nutrients it loses. You’ll notice with Farm to People colors are brighter and flavor is much stronger! Additionally, added chemicals, pesticides, and GMO varieties can negatively impact our gut microbiome and overall health.
Supporting real families – the companies associated with Farm to People are small, family run operations that are passionate about what they do, and they rely on our business.
New and different varieties – diversity is key for the human diet. This is becausewe can obtain different phytonutrients, antioxidants, and expand our pallets. Farm to People offers heirloom, wild, and artisanal varieties of produce.
Line free – schedule your delivery and sit back. There is no need to wait in line! The driver communicates every step of the way, down to the second he drops your box off.
Reducing plastic waste – the produce is not individually bagged in plastic like you will find at the supermarket. This means our food is spending less time in contact with BPAs and other plastic chemicals and fewer bags are going into our landfills and oceans.
A Farm to Table subscription fits seamlessly into any routine. I have been lucky enough to subscribe to a seasonal produce box, which supplements my local CSA membership and increases the diversity of produce that I have access to. Additionally, I am able to add meats and other products like Cocojune yogurt, Ithaca Hummus, and Haven’s Kitchen sauces.
This week I received:
1 seasonal produce box (this can be customized each week)
· 2 bunches of carrots (with tops)
· 1.5 lbs yellow squash
· 12 oz shiitake mushrooms
· 2 pints blueberries
Cage Free Eggs
Red Pepper Romesco Sauce
Golden Turmeric Tahini Sauce
Wild Alaskan Salmon
With all of this I am planning on making:
· Grilled radicchio with turmeric tahini
· Romesco gnocci with beet greens
· Portobello “burgers”
· Yogurt Parfait with blueberries
· Shredded carrot and beet salad with lemon
· Roasted Salmon and onions with turmeric tahini
